What's the best way to place an order?
No matter how you send us your order, we will ship your order within one to two business days of when we receive it. Please use whatever method you find most convenient: mail, phone, fax, e-mail, or our web site.

Do you offer discounts?
We do offer authors a 20% discount on their books and books which they have a paper in. This discount must be noted on the order, and does not apply to shipping. We also offer prepublication discounts on many books until a few months before the publication date. Discounts cannot be combined.
The best way to save money on one of our books is to order a hurt copy. These are often available at 40% off or more, and the damage is generally cosmetic.
We do not offer all of our books for 20% off at every conference and for a month after every conference, the way many other publishers do. We would rather keep our regular prices as low as possible. If we had to plan on selling books at a 20% discount all the time, we'd have to raise our regular prices by about 20%. We sometimes offer a discount at a conference, but only for orders placed at the conference.
Do you offer examination copies of your books for possible course adoption?
We certainly encourage you to consider any of our books for possible course adoption. If you would like an examination or inspection copy, send us e-mail at sales@cascadilla.com saying that you want to consider the book for possible course adoption. We'll need to know the name of the course, semester, and anticipated enrollment.
What are your shipping rates?
Shipping within the US is $6 for the first item, $3 for each additional item. Air mail shipping outside the US is $15 for the first item, $6 for each additional item. Two-volume sets count as two items.
Why are your shipping rates different from the actual postage on the package?
Our shipping rates include the cost of packaging materials, as well as the handling cost of entering the order into our accounting system, packing the order, and shipping it out. We must also take into account the number of packages that are lost or destroyed in transit, which we then have to reship. To keep our shipping rates easy to calculate, we average all of these costs and the actual postage costs, and set shipping rates which will cover these costs. The shipping rate for your package may be less or more than the actual postage.
When will my order be shipped?
We ship orders within one to two business days of when we receive them. Occasionally an order is delayed, and then we contact the customer to let them know the situation.
For forthcoming books, we ship the books as soon as we have them back from the printers. This can take a couple of days when there are hundreds of books going out, but we do not hold advance orders until an artificial publication date.
When will my order arrive?
Shipping within the US is usually by FedEx Ground or Priority/First Class mail. FedEx Ground takes from 2-8 days, depending on distance from Boston. Priority/First Class mail usually takes 3-5 days.
Air mail shipping to other countries is by Global Priority Mail or air mail, and usually takes 1-3 weeks.
What if I need my order shipped overnight?
We do our best to accommodate special requests such as overnight shipping. If we hear from you earlier in the day, it's more likely that we'll be able to get your order out that day. Overnight shipping rates depend on the weight of the package and the destination, and are often $20 to $30 per book within the United States. FedEx shipping to other countries usually takes 2-4 days, and can cost more than $45 per book.
If you place an order by e-mail or on our web site requesting overnight shipping, please include a phone number where we can reach you to confirm the shipping cost. If you do not receive a reply from us by 2:00 p.m. EST, please call us at 1-617-776-2370.
Can I pick up my order?
Unfortunately, we are not allowed to have customers come to our offices, for both zoning and insurance reasons. Bookstores can place a special order for you for any title they do not have in stock.
How do I return an item?
You do not need an RMA or any advance authorization to return an item to Cascadilla Press. We will accept returns of any item in the first 30 days after you receive it. Books must still be in new condition. Just enclose a copy of your receipt or invoice and send the item to:

If you enclose a note letting us know why you're returning the item, that will help us. We try to provide very accurate information about our books, software, and games. If something is not what you expected from the description, we'd like to know so we can rewrite that description!
What's the best way to pay for something?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, checks in U.S. dollars drawn on a U.S. bank, and purchase orders from universities (net 30). At conferences, we also take cash.
We have an on-line payment form if you want to pay an invoice with a credit card through our web site. Otherwise see our contact info to send us a payment.
